We are keen to introduce complete beginners to our Hockwell Ring lunch time dances (and to the other Luton venues). One of the great things about circle dancing is the ease with which people new or even without any experience or natural ability fit in and enjoy the experience.  I continue to appreciate circle dance sessions where there is a huge range of abilities. I have known dancers who still struggle with even the simplest of steps and have no sense of rhythm. But they keep coming after many years to enjoy the company, the music and the movement.

The theme for circle dances at this time of year has to be love of course as yesterday was Valentine’s day. There are thousands of music pieces of all sorts that have had circle dance steps written for them. And love of course is no problem as a theme.

At Hockwell next Wednesday 18Feb Ann Hyde will be leading the dancing. We have a somewhat unusual rota for who leads the dance on which Wednesdays. It suffices to say that roughly half of the Wednesdays Ann Hyde leads and half Calvin French and his wife Ann (another Ann) lead.

It was good to meet Joe* at the Hockwell centre. He was keen to find a way of exercising both body and mind and he developed an immediate affinity with our relaxed way of introducing newcomers.

I have been working to get this web site further up the search engine rankings with some limited success. My idea is to reach those people who are about to or have just retired. My theory is that these people are much more likely to look on the Internet for leisure activities than generations past.
